It looks like it's the "week of Software Updates" at Apple, as the company releases another couple of software updates after half a dozen that where released earlier this week. This time it's iLife '06 and iWork '06 that get updated. Here are the descriptions provided by Apple for these updates iPhoto 6.0.5 Update (57.7MB): This update to iPhoto contains new calendar, greeting card, and postcard themes for use with Apple print services, including a variety of holiday card designs. It also addresses compatibility for accessing Aperture 1.5 content in iPhoto.

Along with the iTunes update, yesterday, Apple has also quietly updated its Pro and mid-range audio production software Logic Pro and Logic Express. Both address performance issues with the PowerMac G5 and Mac Pro Quad and it's recommended for all users. Logic Pro and Logic Express are both updated to version 7.2.3 and respectively weight 25MB and 14MB. They can be downloaded through the following links:

Apple is reportedly readying to release Mac OS X 10.4.8 update as it has seeded a new pair builds to developers, numbered "8L2125" (Intel) and "8L125" (PowerPC) and qualified as mature, with no known issues reported. According to seed notes we have previously received for builds 8L2108 (Intel) and 8L108 (PowerPC), this update will bring improved stability and performance, enhancements towards AFP, DVD Player, iCal, iPhoto, Mail And Safari.

Apple has made available an update for iTunes, bringing it to version 7.0.1 and fixing some bugs. the update weights 25.7MB and is available through the software update utility. Apple's much anticipated iPhone should be available exclusively with Cingular for the first six months of its release, according to a report from ThinkSecret. The site also provides some information it has gathered about the phone's technical specifications and features. The phone should use a candy-bar design, will sport a 2.2 inch display, a 3 megapixel camera and iTunes/iSync support.

The latest generation iMacs, including the all new 24 inch model are reportedly suspected to include a 802.11n compatible wireless chip. When users tried to boot the latest Release Candidate of Microsoft Windows Vista on their new iMac, the system has detected a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. 802.11n is the non-ratified yet successor of 802.11a, b and g which could theorically reach a maximum bandwidth of 540Mbps.

During a special event scheduled at the eve of Photokina, Apple has released a new version of its digital photo retouch software Aperture. Aperture 1.5: The new version, numbered 1.5, includes many new features. Among them are: improved library management, integration with iLife and iWork '06, automatic meta-data exporting and input, improved color controls, improved filters and loupe and sync.

Aperture 2.0 for tomorrow? Sources have confirmed our suspicions that a major release of Apple's pro photography software Aperture is coming during tomorrow's pre-Photokina Apple special event. This version, which should be labelled 2.0, will bring huge performance improvements and some major features that sources did not reveal.

Apple has quietly updated on its online store the iPod U2 Special Edition while dropping its price. The new U2 iPod, which comes with 30GB of storage now reflects the recent iPod line-up update both in terms of technical specifications and pricing. All the new features of the new iPods are included: 640x480 pixel movie playback, brighter display, software features, games and more.

Since we've been migrating our content to a new system, we couldn't provide news coverage for a couple of days, so here's the news catch-up! Disney sells 125 000 movies in the first week: Disney's CEO Rob Iger announced during a Goldman Sachs conference that the company has sold over 125 000 movies on iTunes in the first week of the iTunes Movie store launch. Disney started with 75 movies available on iTunes and will offer more movies in the near future. The company expects to earn as much as $50 million from movie sales on iTunes for the first year.

MacRumors cites reliable sources claiming to have information on the design of Apple’s much anticipated iPod Phone (or iPhone). The site provides a mock-up of the phone as described from its sources. The device has a click-wheel that can slide down so as to reveal a traditionnal phone keyboard. No details on the specifications of the phone are provided but the site’s author speculates on the possibility to play the recently announced iPod games. Additionally, sources expect the phone to be offered in three flavours.

Sources have been very firm on their claims that the new Merom Macbook Pro will be announced on the 25th of September at the special event Apple is preparing for the opening Photokina in Germany. A few hours ago, MacWorld reported that it has received an invite from Apple for this special event. The invite which only states "Start photokina a little early this year", features the same image as on Apple's professional photo software, Aperture, released a year ago.

After his keynote presentation for the September 12 media event, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs was interviewed by CNBC on the latest announcements and on Apple's stock options internal probe. Jobs told that the company is very happy with its iPod sales and has good expectations for the forthcoming quarters. For overall sales, Apple's CEO told "We've never sold this many of anything before, and so we're learning as we go, but so far we're pretty happy."

Apple has posted the new iPod ad that was showed to the audience during the september 12 media event. It features the latest generation iPod nano. The company has also made available the webcast of the media event on its web site. You might however experience connectivity issues due to the high traffic Apple servers currently have.

The same day of the opening of Apple Expo in Paris, Steve Jobs performed a Keynote presentation from San Fransisco so as to announce some very anticipated new products. Reliable sources have informed MacOSXRumors that Apple is planning to introduce a 23 inch iMac on the first day of Apple Expo during a special event that will take place in San Fransisco and will be streamed to London. The iMac will have an across-the-line upgrade to Intel's just released Core 2 Duo processor (Merom), sources claimed.
