Apple and Cisco announced in a joint press release that the two companies have settled the lawsuit the network equipment maker has filed over the "iPhone" trademark on January the 10th.

One day after the release of the iPhone, Cisco had sued Apple over trademark infringement for the use of the "iPhone" trademark on their new mobile phone. "iPhone" is a brand Cisco's consumer subsidiary, Linksys, has owned for a while. Cisco used the trademark on late December when it released a couple of IP phones.

While Apple was calling the law-suit "silly", Cisco's executives explained that they were not against the use of the "iPhone" trademark by Apple. However they requested that the Mac and consumer electronics maker brought some interoperability between the iPhone and Cisco's products.

Although details of the agreement between the two companies haven't been disclosed, we know that in exchange of the right to use the "iPhone" trademark, Apple will make sure its device will be inter-operable with Cisco's phones in some areas.
