Apple announced earlier today that six major airlines have agreed to offer iPod integration in their planes by mid-2007. But the French airline Air France now denies Apple's press release claims. Air France, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and KLM are listed as the first companies participating in the deal. Travelers will be able to recharge their iPod and watch their movies bought on iTunes on the seat-back displays using iPod connections that will be made available on their seats. However, a few hours later, an AirFrance press release surprisingly denied Apple's claims (translated from French): In contrary to claims contained in Apple's press release published today, Air France denies the forthcoming installation of a connection specific to the iPod digital media player. Apple is among Air France's partners but, at this date, it is totally premature to talk about such a project. Apple has been working on Car-integration partnership for two years and recently announced that 70% of the cars sold in the U.S.A in 2007 will provide iPod integration. The company announced its first major partnership for iPod integration in planes, the same day Microsoft launches the Zune, its response to Apple's dominance in the digital media players market. Yeah, next thing we hear
Submitted by marinos on Wed, 2006-11-15 10:44.Yeah, next thing we hear from Apple is that jetBlue and easyJet are installing iPod seats... How can Apple make a formal statement about it when they have only talked informal with these airlines? A communication problem between the parties, or has M$ just stepped in at the last minute behind the scenes?
AirFrance are not denying
Submitted by Shaun McDonald (not verified) on Wed, 2006-11-15 08:50.AirFrance are not denying that they are part of this scheme. What they are saying is that Apple should not have announced it yet.
