MacCulture New forum topics |
Submitted by Alexandros Roussos on Wed, 2006-09-20 16:09.
MacOSXRumors started in 2002 with the goal to bring you reports on forthcoming releases of Mac OS X. The site quickly opened its scope to other Apple news and rumours. In an effort to better reflect the content of this site and to avoid confusion with other rumour sites' branding, we decided to rename it MacScoop. The former domain name, MacosXrumors.com, is now redirecting to the new site, but it will be used again in the near future so as to present a more Mac OS X - centric view of the site (highlighting software and mac os x related reports). This new name will prevent visitors from being confused regarding the topics related on this site and our relations with the similarly named MacOSRumors which has been online for nearly a decade and is doing some guessing on Apple's forthcoming products. A few of you might have noticed it, but behind these little æsthetic improvements to the site's layout, there is a totally revamped site with a new very powerful content management system. So you can expect a lot of features to come shortly on this site. Some of them are already here! It's the so much requested comments system that we've been beta-testing since April, a very improved search engine and improved archives navigation. One more thing! Both MacScoop and MacosXrumors will be part of what will be named the MacCulture Network. A few more sites will emerge from this network during the coming months! Until then, enjoy this new site and don't hesitate to send us feedback, we've never been so open for improvement! If you think you can help us to improve the site, you're also welcome. Still looks like Drupal ;-)
Submitted by Visitor on Thu, 2006-09-21 01:45.As a fellow Drupal user/developer, I like to think I can spot a Drupal-powered site at first blush, and MacScoop fits the bill. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but at the very least you might want to replace the Drupal favicon with one of your own...

Submitted by Admin on Thu, 2006-09-21 02:00.Thanks, I noticed the favicon needs to be changed just after I put the new site online ;).
I'm not trying to hide that this site is running on drupal though but I'm already working on improved templates with further customization.

How long did it take you for putting this project in place ?
Did you have prior knowlage of Drupal ?
Thanks for answering
I like the design ! Looks good ...
I can't tell you exactly how
Submitted by Admin on Fri, 2006-09-22 16:58.I can't tell you exactly how many hours I spent on it because I'm doing it during my free time.
The first day I tested the CMS was late 2005. We first chose to go with vbDrupal and vBulletin though. The former site was running on WordPress and we needed to study on the content migration process.
We then started a beta-test/pilot program in April 2006 with vBulletin/vbDrupal. The pilot was stopped in late June because the results were not good: too much maintenance required to run vbdrupal with mods for multi-site support and shared database + vbulletin is a big victim of spam, whatever protection plug-in you add to it.
Although vBulletin costed us some money, we decided to go Drupal alone with some customization. We'll try to contribute to the project with modules and mods if we develop any specific feature.
We definitely need to cutomize the site's a bit further, it still looks like a drupal site as noted on an earlier comment but our priority is to make sure everything works fine for the moment.
Drupal does require to play with it for a long time to understand how it works. But once you know how to use it, it is very flexible and powerful. I might publish some experience sharing once the biggest part of the MacCulture project will be ready, I'm currently still working on it.
So... how is this less
